Come Behold Banner-01

Sermon: "Sin Bearer, Spirit Baptizer"

The preaching passage: John 1:29-34

Though the Advent season is completed, we are continuing our study of the first chapter of John's Gospel for the next two Sundays. Contained in this lengthy chapter are powerful, eternal truths that reveal the glory and the grace of our salvation and, moreover, the glory and grace of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Our desire is to once more come and behold the wondrous mystery of God coming to earth to save His people from their sins. We pray that you'll journey with us and worship with us as we study.

This Sunday, we'll be looking at John 1:29-34, a passage that includes one of the most powerful descriptions of Christ. Spoken by the mouth of John the Baptist, we are told to "Behold the lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the the world!" We will unpack that phrase, along with the rest of what John has to tell us about the Christ who batizes us not merely with water, but with His Holy Spirit.

Songs we'll sing together include:

“Come Thou Almighty King” by Wesley (YouTube)

“A Mighty Fortress is Our God” by Luther (Grace Church)

“Behold Our God” by Altrogge & Baird (YouTube)

“Rock of Ages” by Hastings & Toplady (YouTube)

"There is a Fountain" by Cowper (YouTube)

See you Sunday!
